West Virginia State Mourns
Dr. Kay Clawson West Virginia State President from 2007-2009 passed away on April 25, 2021 ,following a short illness. Dr. Clawson was an active participant in her chapters, her state and DKG International. Despite the fact that she most recently iived in Florida and joined a chapter there, she retained an active membership in our state organization. Even before started my biennium, she was a source of inspiration and guidance. We have lost an exceptional leader and she will be missed.
West Virginia 2021 State Convention Biennium Officer and Committee Reports
Everyone who registered for the convention received these reports. Please take the time to read them if you have not already done so. Many goals were met despite the pandemic. I was fortunate to work with such committed women during my biennium. This report is available on request from Susan Marra, Executive Secretary.
Watch for the New Logo - 2021-2023
Our incoming president , Joanne Gregory has shared her theme and logo. “The leader in you, cares, shares and listens.” I am encouraging the members of West Virginia State DKG to be the leaders she knows you all are. Please support the new officers and support personnel as you have supported me during the past two years.

Virtual Convention - April 23, 24, 2021
The convention exceeded our expectations. Over one hundred members joined the convention Friday and Saturday. Countless hours went into the planning and executing of this event. Comment have been very positive. We all had a little anxiety and fear when we first decided to do a virtual instead of a face to face traditional convention. Thank you to all of the women who joined us for an experience unlike any we have ever had in DKG. We will remember this convention for a long time.
Chapter Restoration
This past year has been very hard on DKG chapters and their members in West Virginia and throughout the world. I am strongly encouraging chapter presidents to take the temperature of their chapter and chapter members. I know many of you took advantage of Zoom meetings but I also know that many of you did not. Look for red flags and work to bring your chapter back into balance. It is strongly suggested that, if possible ,you meet this summer in a safe location and plan for the more normal year to come. Ask your chapter members to share strengths and weaknesses and suggestions for improvement. Plan for community service and professional programs. Set restorative leadership goals and work to meet them.
International Conferences
I am hoping some of you consider attending an International conference this summer. Conferences will be held in San Antonio, Texas and Portland, Oregon. I will be attending the San Antonio conference July 21-24, 2021. You can attend either virtually or in person. See the DKG website.
I will be giving the “Welcome” to the members attending the Celebration Dinner in San Antonio on Saturday, July 24. It would be great if some of my West Virginia DKG sisters were in attendance. I am humbled and pleased that Debra LeBlanc, our Northeast Regional Director offered me this opportunity.
I would like to leave you with the following quotation that I hope you share with your chapter members.
