All that was lost was the element of surprise. The name of the recipient was to be kept secret until Dr. Glenda Wait, last year’s winner, presented it at the 2023 West Virginia State Convention. It would have been simple if Deloris Lipps were not the state treasurer. The committee planned around Deloris and thought they had convinced her that no Achievement Award was to be given this year. The special gold medallion and gold chain was ordered for her, and the company was expressly told not to send the bill to Deloris Lipps, West Virginia State Treasurer. Somebody at the company dropped the ball and sent the bill to Deloris so she was very surprised - in February. She kept quiet and played along until after the presentation.
Deloris, a member of Mu Chapter, has been in Delta Kappa Gamma for 37 years. She has served on many different committees including finance, membership, nominations, rules and bylaws, program, research, and educational excellence. Deloris has held the offices of president, vice president, recording secretary, treasurer, and Parliamentarian at the chapter level. She became state treasurer for West Virginia State DKG in 2015. Deloris is the editor of the newsletter for Mu Chapter, and she has worked with her chapter on two state conventions.
This outstanding educator and DKG member has attended over 25 state conventions, 12 international conventions and 12 regional conferences. Deloris has been a member of the WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics for over 20 years She also was the Wirt County Math Field Day Coordinator for over 20 years.
Deloris retired from Wirt County High School in June 2014 but returned to work as a math teacher during the pandemic.
Deloris Lipps is well deserving of this award. She has been an active leader at the local and state level. Without a doubt, Deloris is giving exceptional service and outstanding commitment to Delta Kappa Gamma.
