Dr. Marilyn “Susie“ Rogers (Nu) was selected as this year's recipient of the West Virginia Delta Kappa Gamma  Achievement Award. Dr. Rogers has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for more than thirty years. She was selected based on her outstanding work at the chapter level and state level. Susie is very active in many organizations and in her church. She is the choir director and has played the organ for her church for more than thirty years. Susie has attended many state, national and international conventions.
Her chapter sisters state that Susie’s outstanding work in the educational field has enriched their own chapter as well as the community. They describe her as helpful, a hard worker and a compassionate person. Her nominees also stated that Susie’s experiences as a teacher, counselor and administrator have given her excellent leadership skills. The State Achievement Award Committee was proud to select Susie as this year's winner based on her chapter’s outstanding application.

Alpha Delta Chapter member Adena Barnette has been named the 2021 State History Teacher of the Year. This award is presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization  dedicated to K-12 American history education. In 2021, parents, students, teachers and administrators nationwide nominated a record 8,510 teachers for the History Teacher of the Year Award. Amidst a very competitive field, Barnette rose to the top in West Virginia. “Mrs. Barnette is an outstanding representative of our state’s education community because she realizes the impact that creativity and innovation can make on a student’s future,” State Superintendent of Schools W. Clayton Burch said. “We are so proud that she has been recognized at the state level for her commitment to making American history come to life in the classroom.” In addition to a $1,000 honorarium, Barnette’s school will receive a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials and recognition at a ceremony in West Virginia.

Alpha Chapter proudly celebrates with member Judy Rule, Director of the Cabell County Public Library and its seven branches. The Cabell County Public Library is the winner of the National Medal for Museum and Library Science. It is one of six recipients of this prestigious award – three museums and three libraries. The other libraries are in Illinois and Tennessee and the museums are in Oregon, Mississippi and Puerto Rico. They have “provided dynamic programming and services that exceed expected levels of service. Through their community outreach, these institutions bring about change that touches the lives of individuals and helps communities thrive.” Judy has been working for the Cabell County Library for 54 years (!) and as Director for 38 years. Congratulations to Judy and all of her Cabell County Public Library staff!
